Assessment Centers & Crisis Response

In cases of emergency related to mental health and/or substance use-related crisis, Philadelphia offers several options.

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

Urgent assistance is available 24/7 by calling or texting the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988. This 988 team of crisis counselors will provide guidance and support for any mental health emergency including involuntary commitments, dispatching of mobile teams for face-to-face therapeutic and assessment, and outpatient resources.

Crisis Response Centers

Crisis Response Centers located throughout the county operate 24/7 and offer emergency evaluations with a psychiatrist to help determine the most appropriate level of care and services. There are five adult CRCs available to serve city residents who require emergency behavioral health services in a safe setting.

CRCs can complete assessments of behavioral health and facilitate referrals to inpatient and outpatient settings. Additionally, they can assess substance abuse needs and help link individuals using opioids to one of the community-based medication assisted treatment (MAT) providers if appropriate. To find available MAT facilities, please visit our Medication Assisted Treatment page.
