Charles McCrea
MHS
Interim Director
Behavioral Health and Justice Division

Charles McCrea, MHS, oversees the Behavioral Health and Justice Division at DBHIDS, which works to provide equal opportunities for treatment, support, and community integration for justice-involved Philadelphians with behavioral health challenges.

BHJD envisions a Philadelphia where every individual achieves health, well-being, and self-determination. In order to attain this vision, BHJD will work to reduce justice involvement for Philadelphians with behavioral health challenges and work for Philadelphians with serious mental illness to reduce the number in county jail, reduce admissions to county jail, reduce the length of stay in county jail, increase connections to treatment and support, and reduce recidivism.

Charles has almost two decades of forensic mental health experience with DBHIDS, most recently as BHJD’s Associate Director of Business Intelligence. He is dedicated to expanding the expertise that BHJD provides to our prison, police, and judicial partners in Philadelphia and is driven by the core principle that every Philadelphian deserves an opportunity to access competent, efficient, and effective services to decrease the likelihood of being incarcerated, reduce the length of stay for those already incarcerated, and prevent subsequent incarcerations for individuals experiencing a behavioral health challenge. Charles believes in a data-driven approach to ensure the efficacy of the initiatives BHJD provides.
