Mental Health Panel Focuses on Struggles of Black Men in Leadership

The City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services, or DBHIDS, hosted a panel discussing mental health challenges faced by Black men in leadership.

The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Sky Lounge recently held “The Weight of The Crown: The Silent Battles of Leadership,” to discuss how the demographic can lead without losing their personalities.

“Leadership is often measured by visibility, authority and success,” said Octavious Blount, community engagement specialist at DBHIDS and host of the discussion. “What is rarely acknowledged is the weight that leadership carries. Especially for men of color who are expected to lead with strength while navigating constant pressure and unspoken expectations.”
