PHILADELPHIA – Mayor Cherelle Parker and the city of Philadelphia have officially opened Riverview Wellness Village, a care and recovery housing center that aims to tackle a critical gap in Philadelphia’s wellness ecosystem.
The new housing project that will help people battling addiction opened up in northeast Philadelphia Wednesday.
The Riverview Wellness Village, located in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia, has more than 300 beds for people coming out of inpatient treatment programs.
It sounds more like a resort spa or a new upscale retirement community and in its own way, it will be both to those it serves successfully. That includes those who choose to go from life on the streets into drug and mental health treatment centers, and then to Riverview.
They will learn how to retire from the hard life on the street and learn how to get their lives back, get jobs, and eventually find permanent homes.
