Please join us for the burial of 50 formerly homeless individuals and continue the legacy of light started by the late Michael Hinson of SELF Inc.
Lester Ross was well-known in the homeless community for his infectious smile and ability to apologize for being a “hoot” as described by the late Michael Hinson. Ross passed away from COVID-19 in the fall of 2020 and it was learned that his cremains were left unclaimed in the city morgue.
The late Michael Hinson of SELF Inc. and Mel Wells from ODAAT spearheaded efforts to host a memorial and bury Ross’s cremains. In this process, it was learned there were unclaimed cremains of other homeless and formerly homeless men and women.
Hence, the Lester Ross Memorial Fund was born to honor Ross and to provide dignified burials for others. There have been 123 burials to this date and there will be 50 more cremains laid to rest with their names and markers at this year’s burial.
