Tobacco Recovery and Wellness Initiative
The Tobacco Recovery and Wellness Initiative is a project coordinated through the DBHIDS Division of Community Behavioral Health that helps behavioral health providers incorporate evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment into their clinical and community practice and helps people in recovery improve physical and emotional health and overall quality of life.
Tobacco use is common among Philadelphians receiving care in behavioral health services. Many believe that smoking is a helpful way to cope with stress or to bond with peers.
Learning tobacco-free coping skills is safe and achievable, contributes to long-term sobriety, reduces social stigma, and enhances the health and quality of life of people in recovery.
