Message from the Commissioner: Tragic Fire of Jan. 5

The news of yesterday’s fire – the death of eight children and four adults in our City – is heartbreaking.

Our prayers go out to all of those impacted by this tragedy – families, friends, neighbors, caregivers, and emergency responders, as well as the many people who heard the news and, like so many of us, simply felt overwhelmed and saddened.

Please know that the City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS) is here to help. It is OK to not be OK. Whether you’re feeling distressed by this tragic fire or by other events, please click to learn about free mental health and trauma resources, supports, and services at DBHIDS.org/Boost. You’re not alone. We are here to help.

The City also continues to provide updates – as well as additional resources for residents, including how to get free smoke detectors and how you can help – at Phila.gov.

Jill Bowen, Ph.D.
DBHIDS Commissioner
