Everyone is king and queen at this special Northeast Philly prom

It’s prom season. And in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday night, dozens of individuals with special needs, most of them younger, put on their fancy attire and enjoyed a magical evening organized just for them.

Attendees got to walk the red carpet to rousing ovations as they entered the Fraternal Order of Police headquarters. Then, after getting their pictures taken, it was time to dance the night away.

20-year-old Elijah didn’t shy away from busting a move.

“I had fun,” he said. “I got out on the dance floor. It feels special to me.”

It was special for his mother, Schemel, too.

“For me it’s just to see that he’s having a good time,” she added.
