A community block party in North Philadelphia brought residents together over the holiday weekend for celebration, conversation and access to resources focused on supporting children and families.
The annual event, held near North 28th Street and West Allegheny Avenue, was organized by Tina Collins, founder of the Show Me the Way Foundation. The foundation is all about helping children who have been impacted by adverse childhood events such as gun violence and poverty.
“We can’t rely on one organization, such as our police or law enforcement, to fix the problem. We have to work collectively. We have to work as a unit. I really believe in the mindset of the village,” Collins said.
Collins said this year’s event focused on the mental well-being of young people and their families.
“We’re focusing on youth mental health and wellness. Not just for our youth but the whole family structure because everyone’s impacted by it,” she said.
