The City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services is bringing back in-person Opioid Overdose Prevention & Narcan Rescue Training, a vital, hands-on session designed to empower people with the skills and knowledge to help save lives.

In this training, you will learn:

  • The basics of opioid dependency — for medically prescribed and non-prescribed opioids.
  • The impact of the opioid crisis locally and nationally.
  • Good Samaritan laws that protect those who help in an overdose situation.
  • Philadelphia’s coordinated efforts to address the epidemic.
  • How naloxone (Narcan) works to reverse an opioid overdose.
  • How to recognize overdose risk factors and warning signs.
  • How to administer Narcan safely and effectively.

The City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS) is excited to launch its fourth cohort of the Immigrant/Refugee Wellness Academy. IRWA is a free certificate training program designed to empower and prepare Philadelphia’s multilingual/multicultural immigrants and refugees with the knowledge, resources, and tools to engage in activities that address the mental health and behavioral challenges experienced by local immigrant and refugee communities.

The program will enhance participants’ leadership skills, increase knowledge about behavioral health and intellectual disability challenges, and empower graduates with the tools to access local resources for themselves and their communities. These interactive sessions reinforce collaborative learning through presentations, discussion activities, and meaningful dialogue to build personal and community resilience and wellness.

IRWA will run Wednesdays from April 15 to June 17. It consists of an orientation, eight sessions, and a graduation ceremony. IRWA is offered in person and through virtual sessions. Standard sessions will run from 2 to 4 p.m. There will also be two special sessions: Mental Health Interpretation, which will last four hours, and Mental Health First Aid, is an all-day session.

On behalf of the DBHIDS Engaging Women & Girls of Color (EWGOC) Initiative, we invite you to Session II of our Virtual Wellness Series focusing on Human Trafficking Awareness, Wellness, and Access to Care.

This virtual session taking place via Zoom will offer a supportive space to learn more about how human trafficking impacts women and girls of color in Philadelphia and what communities can do to promote safety and wellness. Participants will hear from experts about risk factors, signs of exploitation, and how major upcoming events can increase vulnerability. We will also highlight emotional and behavioral health impacts, along with practical tools for prevention, support, and accessing care.

This conversation is open to all community members, advocates, service providers, and anyone committed to health equity and safety. Please feel free to share within your networks. All are welcome!
