Storiez: Trauma Narratives with Urban Youth for Community Leaders

March 20 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

This training begins with an introduction to trauma (defining trauma, exploring trauma exposure and urban youth, and considering the consequences of trauma exposure). It then explores trauma treatment for youth (best practices, treatment modalities, common factors, and trauma narratives). Finally, the DIY Storiez intervention is presented using didactic material, video content, and participatory activities. Storiez is a nine-step framework to assist urban youth as they create, voice, and honor their life narratives. The DIY Storiez intervention is an adapted version of the full trauma narrative process. It supports trauma survivors in creating abbreviated trauma narratives with the support of teachers, program leaders, coaches, and other community supports.

Target Audience: Community partners, master’s level clinicians or clinicians in training who work in brief treatment settings.

Meagan Corrado, DSW, LCSW is the presenter. She earned her master’s degree in social services in 2009 from Bryn Mawr College, and her doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016. Dr. Corrado has trained over 8,000 clinicians, community leaders and trauma survivors across 22 innovative programs. Dr. Meagan completed training in a variety of modalities, including Childhood Sexual Abuse Treatment, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Narrative Exposure Therapy. Dr. Meagan specializes in working with trauma-exposed urban youth. Her experience includes clinical work in a variety of settings including community mental health agencies, residential treatment facilities, hospitals, schools, and homes.
