Recovery Walks! 2019 Pep Rally
September 13, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
PRO-ACT will host a Recovery Walks! 2019 Pep Rally to get you ready to celebrate the largest recovery walk in the nation.
The Pep rally is part of the nationwide recognition of September as Recovery Month, organized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The 2019 Recovery Month theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Are Stronger,” emphasizes the need to share resources and build networks across the country to support the many paths to recovery—engaging passionate community members along the way. The Pep Rally and the Recovery Walks! are examples of just that kind of engagement!
Speakers at the Pep Rally will highlight “Why I Walk” in the PRO-ACT Recovery Walks!, which will take place Sept. 21 at Penn’s Landing. About 30,000 walkers are expected to participate. PRO-ACT Recovery Walks!, which has been hosted in conjunction with the City of Philadelphia since 2002, is the largest of its kind in the Nation.
Participants in the Pep Rally include Councilman William Greenlee; Councilman Bobby Heron; Roland Lamb, Deputy Commissioner, Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health & Intellectual disAbility Services; and Jennifer King, Executive Director, The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania; and will highlight other event sponsors including Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission and Temple University Health System. The event will also spotlight the “Someone You Know” Campaign implemented by event sponsor Independence Blue Cross. Hundreds of parents, supporters, and community members are expected to attend.
