Continuing the established trend of Philadelphia being a leader in mental health awareness, in December, the city surprised 25,000 people trained in\u00a0Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)<\/a>. This achievement makes Philadelphia the city with the most trainees in MHFA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis milestone for Mental Health First Aid trainees represents a monumental feat,\u201d said DBHIDS Commissioner David T. Jones, \u201cand DBHIDS is committed to training additional Philadelphians in MHFA!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPhiladelphia continues to \u2018walk the walk,\u2019 demonstrating its commitment to increasing mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting well-being for every Philadelphian,\u201d said Assistant Director of Health Promotion Maria Boswell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This latest achievement continues a long-established pattern of Philadelphia taking a position at the forefront of mental health awareness and providing an example for other cities nationwide and around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Internationally, DBHIDS has partnered with the International Association of Peer Supporters (iNAPS)<\/a> in 2016, and hosting the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership in both 2016<\/a> and 2017<\/a>. Additionally, the City\u2019s efforts to normalize mental health disorders through the \u201cGet a Check-Up from the Neck Up\u201d campaign has drawn praise from as far away as Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
