Starting in the new year, the 80 inpatient drug treatment programs that receive city funds will ban smoking at their facilities \u2014 for patients and staff alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a decision that\u2019s been in the works since the city\u2019s mental-health facilities barred tobacco use in 2016. City officials say the move is bolstered by growing research that shows that quitting smoking while undergoing addiction treatment gives patients a better chance at recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
