Community Coalition Wellness Initiative (CCWI)
Strong community coalitions are essential to assuring community-based prevention, early intervention, and trauma-informed services for all individuals. Started in 2007, CCWI was designed to enable people to work together to address the challenges faced by their communities. Each coalition consists of a community-based organization (CBO), a faith-based organization (FBO), a primary healthcare organization (PH), and a licensed behavioral healthcare provider (BH). CCWI’s activities continue to assist over 1,500 people annually in Philadelphia, and have had a hand in decreasing child abuse and neglect, and diminishing exposure to intra-familial violence.
CCWI continues to engage communities in a range of activities including trauma screening and assessment, outreach and engagement, youth development and leadership, and health and wellness activities (financial, spiritual, occupational, physical, behavioral health, etc.). The coalitions serve a variety of targeted population groups and offer holistic services in the convenience of one’s community. Community members who are medical assistance (MA) recipients or are in the process of attaining MA eligibility are primary targets of these services.
Program Goals
- Identify the strengths in communities that will help to prevent and protect against behavioral health challenges
- Identify areas of concern in specific communities that make children, youth, and their families at risk for serious long-term behavioral and physical health issues
- Support effective grassroots strategies that currently exist in the community and provide assistance in building long-term capacity and community infrastructure
- Support community services and supports that promote overall health and wellness for children, youth, and their families that incorporate strategies for integration and sustainability models
- Evaluate community-based needs of the citizens in Philadelphia, and enhance and/or expand our scope of services to additional vulnerable populations
